About Us

The origins of H+H Fire go back to 1981, when the founder, Glenn Horton joined the Essex Fire Brigade.  During his career as a fire officer Glenn served in a number of postings including operations, training and fire prevention.  During his service Glenn was responsible for approvals, enforcement and prosecutions under the Fire Precautions Act, leading and working on major projects throughout the County of Essex. Including working on Stansted Airport and the Oil Refinery complexes along the Thames Corridor.

In 1997, Glenn graduated from London South Bank University with a B.Eng (Hons) in fire safety engineering with a thesis on the conversion of an existing open shopping centre into a covered mall.

In 1999 whilst serving as a qualified fire engineer in the planning and policy section, Glenn made the transition to Consultant Fire Engineer with a small private practice.

In 2000 Glenn was awarded Chartered Fire Engineer status by the Institute of Fire Engineers, at the time of his application there being only 13 registered worldwide.

Glenn was appointed Technical Director Fire Engineering in 2000, a post he held until 2009.  Glenn was the leading factor in the growth and development of that practice into one of the largest independent fire engineering practices internationally and was responsible for winning major fire engineering projects around the world.

Some of Glenn’s  project highlights included the Mall of Arabia (the world’s largest shopping mall with the final design of some 450M ft2 gross leasable area), the 1st phase of the Dubai Metro, Jebel Hafeet Ski slope (a 2km long indoor ski slope plus hotels, mall, etc), Bahrain Bay (3 x 42 storey towers on top of 9 levels of parking and a shopping mall), Imperial Wharf (the largest brownfield mixed use development in the UK), to name but a few.

In 2009 Glenn started H+H Fire and quickly gained work on some of the most prestigious projects, working on both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports.

H+H Fire have worked on, or are working on, major projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Libya, Bahrain, Oman, Mongolia, Azerbaijan and the UK.  H+H Fire are proud to include projects for blue chip clients in their portfolio.  We know no boundaries and will happily work to international and local fire codes wherever clients wish us to work.

Glenn is serving on a number of British Standard Committees and has also supported the development of fire engineering via the Smoke Control Association committees, working on behalf of Association of Building Engineers, sitting on the board awarding C.Eng status of the Institute of Fire Engineers and is on the Scientific Committee of the Conference in Safety and Crisis Management in the Construction, Tourism and SME Sectors.

H+H Fire have continued to apply the same high technical standards that Glenn has espoused throughout his career in fire engineering.  Glenn has built a team of highly skilled and dedicated fire engineers to support our clients, in the UK and elsewhere using the latest tools and techniques.

The team at H+H strive to deliver the levels of advice and service that clients expect and it is notable that we continue to provide support to several major clients that he first worked with in 1999.

H+H Fire recognise that the key benefits we bring to a project are the ability to understand a client’s brief quickly and to deliver solutions that are cost effective, timely and meet their objectives.  We realise that our role is to deliver what the client wants without drama or fuss; no more no less.

You provide the problems, we provide the solutions.
